The Mumbai City Civil Court on Friday refused to pass any interim order in favor of actor Salman Khan, who has filed a suit against a neighbor for alleged defamation. Salman Khan has filed a civil suit alleging that Ketan Kakkar, the owner of a plot near the actor’s farmhouse in Panvel, near Mumbai, defamed him during an interview with a YouTube channel.
Next hearing on January 21
Judge Anil H Laddhad directed Kakkar to file his reply and fixed January 21 as the date of next hearing of the matter. DSK Legal’s lawyers representing Khan sought an interim order restraining Kakkar from making any further defamatory statements during the pendency of the trial. Kakkar’s lawyers Abha Singh and Aditya Pratap, however, opposed the request, saying they got the papers of the case only on Thursday evening and could not go through the entire trial.
Advocate Singh also submitted that there is no urgency and if Khan waited for a month to file the suit, Kakkar should get some time to file his reply. The judge then adjourned the hearing. Khan, who lives in Mumbai’s suburban Bandra, has a farmhouse in Panvel in neighboring Raigad district. Kakkar, who hails from Mumbai, has a plot on a hillock next to Khan’s farmhouse.
False remarks against the actor
According to Khan’s lawsuit, Kakkar made false remarks against the actor while talking to a YouTuber. Two other persons who took part in the show have also been made defendants. Khan has also made YouTube, social media sites such as Facebook, Twitter and search engine Google as parties to the lawsuit and demanded that they be directed to block and remove “derogatory content” from their websites. Khan wants a standing order restraining Kakkar from posting or publishing derogatory material about the actor or his farmhouse.
